What are Duplicate Profiles?

When the system suspects multiple profiles with similar data being used by the same person. The system will mark all hose profiles as duplicate profiles Duplicate profiles may cause misleading analytics and also can cause misleading communications between the user and the community. 






Here, we have 2 profiles of the same person who created both profiles with different email addresses. But all other data like professional education work education were matching. So, the system marked it as duplicates.

How system detects duplicates?
There are certain metrics and parameters which can alarm the system of duplicate profiles.

1. When Enrollment numbers are matching.
Enrollment numbers are the unique id given to every alumni when they used to study in the university. So, when 2 enrollment numbers match, it is a high probability that those profile may be a duplicate.

2. When Institutional Information are matching.
Along with the users name if the institutional information fields like the year of joining, the year of graduation, institute name, department etc matches. , then there is a high probability that these profiles can be duplicate of each other.

When system detects duplicates?
There are multiple instances at which our system can detect whether a profile is duplicate of another profile. There instances are:

1. When a user tries to sign up for the first time
The user is informed that there is already a similar profile, and they can rather use that profile to log in. User can skip this message and continue signing up or stop signing up and log in with the original profile.

2. When a user's updates their profile details
Whenever users update their profiles, our system will run a check to see whether the profile is duplicate or not.

3. When an admin creates a user profile/updates a profile via import profiles functionality
Whenever the admin creates/updates profiles in the bulk our system will run a duplicate test process.

4. Automatically, once every 24 hours.
Every 24 hours our system runs a duplicate test process on every profile to check whether there are any new duplicate profiles or not.
